The Humane Society of Flower Mound announces the return of a favorite Spring fundraiser……Flamingo Flocking!
It's fun! It's embarrassing! It's flamingo extortion! But it's all for a good cause. Starting at $25.00, you can have a flock of plastic flamingos set up in an unsuspecting friend's yard. Perfect for the proud graduate... the birthday boy or girl... the parents of that sweet new baby.... or anyone who appreciates a bit of humor!
Under cover of darkness local volunteers will set up and later remove the flamingo flock in your recipient's front yard. Contributions for removal are gratefully accepted as well! We also offer a nice sign where you can add your own message! Imagine the look on your friend's face when they awake to a yard full of flamingos. So get flocking! Email flamingos@hsfm.org or call the Flamingo Hotline (972) 874-0807 to place your order now. Read the program information or Click here for the order form.

Surprise your friends...have a few laughs...and help us raise some much needed cash to help our local animals!

April 9, 2012 - Members of the Humane Society of Flower Mound attending Easter services at the Fellowship Church in Grapevine on Sunday were stunned to see a live lion wheeled in front of the stage. A four-day-old lamb was also carried around on the stage for a portion of the service. The message, according to Pastor Ed Young, was the paradox of Jesus as both lion and lamb. However, several observers and church members came away with a different paradox--mistreatment of animals in a place designed to teach compassion.
“I truly like Fellowship and I think Ed has a way of making Bible scripture easy for everyone to understand and apply to their life. But...he is not showing or teaching compassion to God's creatures by using these live animals in this way,” said Lisa Chatlain, an admirer of Fellowship Church.
Stacy Smith, HSFM’S Vice President of Animal Advocacy and the Dallas Chapter President of the Texas Humane Legislation Network, witnessed the event as well. “I was appalled at the treatment of both animals. The lamb was described by Mr. Young as four days old, scared, and wanting its mother. It cried the entire time it was there. It was held a few yards from a large predator which, if it couldn’t see, it could certainly smell. Prey animals like lambs instinctively know when there is danger and their natural instinct is to hide, which it couldn’t do.”
Smith was disturbed by the treatment of the lion as well, and described the scene as inhumane and dangerous to the public. “There have been countless examples of wild animals escaping their enclosures and injuring or killing bystanders. This lion was wheeled out in a small cage within a few feet of an audience and taunted into lunging at his trainer. Had the cage collapsed or he escaped, it would have been impossible to protect the people, including many children, around him.” Photographs of the incident may be viewed on HSFM’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/HSFMFans.
HSFM hopes to work with the church and Grapevine officials to stop several planned future events featuring other wild animals.
According to the Humane Society of the United States website, “The vast majority of animal exhibitors licensed by the federal government do not meet industry accreditation standards. Thousands of animals suffer in roadside zoos and menageries. Inhumane conditions teach children the wrong message, seeming to condone indifference.”
Since 1997, HSFM has given hope to thousands of homeless, abused, and unwanted animals in Flower Mound and the surrounding communities by providing spay/neuter programs, adoption opportunities, and education to the public about animal welfare. Please visit www.hsfm.org for more information.
